Motlow Baseball Falls in Three-Game Series Against Dyersburg State

LYNCHBURG, TN (April 16, 2024) – The Bucks endured three losses against Dyersburg State this past weekend. 

Motlow will travel this coming weekend to Cleveland, facing Cleveland State in a TCCAA three-game series.

Saturday Game 1. Motlow 3 Dyersburg State 6

Motlow State started the game very strong offensively as they added three runs to the scoreboard in the top of the 1stinning. Unfortunately, the Bucks were unable to keep the lead as they were not able to score for the remainder of the game. 

Dyersburg State scored one run in the bottom of the 2nd, two runs in the bottom of the 3rd, and three runs in the bottom of the 4th.  Dyersburg secures the victory as Dyersburg outscored Motlow 3-6.

Despite the loss, the Bucks have some positive takeaways from this game. John Hale and Grant Goodwin scored one run each. Tucker Allen had one RBI, and Luke Johnson hit a home run and drove in one run.

Saturday Game 2. Motlow 1 Dyersburg State 11

Motlow State was able to start the scoring early as Jay Pichardo hit a double towards left field, and John Hale was able to score a run for the Bucks in the top of the 1st inning. The Bucks were able to stay strong defensively by keeping Dyersburg State off the scoreboard for most of the game. 

Dyersburg State’s increased their offensive efforts and was successful as they were able to add 11 runs in the bottom of the 6th, ultimately giving Dyersburg the win. 

Even with the loss, the Bucks can highlight key plays from some players. John Hale had a run for the Bucks, and Jay Pichardo batted him in. Pitcher Nic Schutte was able to strike out 8 batters over 5 innings. 

Sunday Game 1. Motlow 4 Dyersburg State 10

The game started off on a quiet note, as neither team was able to score in the 1st inning. Dyersburg State started the scoring in the top of the 2nd  by scoring seven runs. The scoring continued for Dyersburg as they added two runs in the bottom of the third, and one run in the bottom of the 4th

Dyersburg State was unable to score for the remainder of the game as Motlow State gained strength defensively. In addition to improving defensively, the Bucks were able to contribute offensively as well by adding three runs in the top of the 5th and one run in the top of the 8th. Despite the strong efforts by Motlow State, Dyersburg was victorious as the game ended 4-10. 

John Hale, Kaleb Gupton, and Baron Cribbs each contributed one run each. Grant Goodwin scored one run and had 1 RBI. Tucker Allen and Robbie Gallardo had 1 RBI each.
