Motlow Softball Hosts TCCAA rival Columbia State this Weekend

The Motlow softball team will be back in action this weekend when it hosts conference opponent Columbia State at the softball field on Motlow's Moore County campus. Doubleheaders are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at noon. Admission is free.

The Bucks (11-24, 6-16) are coming off a doubleheader loss to visiting Dyersburg State on Monday. The Eagles took game one 10-2 and game two 10-1.

Dyersburg hit a pair of three-run homers in the first inning of game one and led 8-0 before Motlow could get on the scoreboard in the third inning. Jordan Lund drew a walk to drive in Michalee Clay, and Cenzie McAnally singled to drive in Susanna Cruit. Katelyn Helmick had two hits in the game, and Allie Anderson, Lund, and Cruit also had hits.

Mary Bradley pitched the complete game in the circle for Motlow, allowing ten hits with four strikeouts.

The Eagles (25-9, 15-5) started game two by continuing their hot hitting, scoring two runs in the first, second, and fourth innings and three in the third. Motlow's lone run came in the fifth, with Helmick singling to right field to drive in Savanna Beard.

Clay had two hits for the Bucks, while Lund, Anderson, Demi Garner, and Beard also had hits.

Cruit pitched the first 2.1 innings, allowing six hits and seven runs with two strikeouts. Hannah Burks pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs.
