Motlow Softball Wins Double Header Against Columbia State

LYNCHBURG, TN (April 22, 2024) – The Lady Bucks win both games in a double header against Columbia State this past Friday.   

Motlow host Volunteer State this Wednesday in a TCCAA doubleheader.

Game 1. Motlow 6 Columbia State 5

Motlow State was able to take the lead early in the game as they were able to score one run in the bottom of the 1stinning. The Lady Bucks were able to keep Columbia State from scoring until the top of the 3rd inning, when the Chargers were able to add three runs to the scoreboard. Motlow State responded back right away by equaling the runs for that inning, scoring three runs to keep the lead by one run. 

Columbia State was able to slowly take the lead for the first time by scoring one run in the top of the 4th and another run in the top of the 5th. Motlow State responded to the Charger’s offensive efforts by scoring two more runs to take back the lead. They were able to score one run in the bottom of the 7th and one more run in the bottom of the 8th, giving Motlow State the win for game one, 5-6. 

Michalee Clay scored two runs for the Lady Bucks. Hannah Foster also scored two runs, but she also had 1 RBI. Hannah Totaro contributed by adding one run. Mallory Williams, Damonyai Lyons, and Carli Warner each had 1 RBI. From the pitcher’s circle, Williams struck out 6 batters over 3 innings.

Game 2. Motlow 10 Columbia State 1

Motlow had a strong offensive start by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and three runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The Lady Bucks were able to keep Columbia State from scoring until the top of the 4th with the Chargers scoring one run. 

Motlow State was able to extend their lead even more by adding five more runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th inning. With Columbia State unable to score in the top of the 5th, Motlow State took the second win of the day with the score being 10-1. 

Warner scored three runs for the Lady Bucks and batted in three runners. Clay scored 2 runs, while Haylee Hobby, Kennadee Lawrence, Mallorie Stone, Foster, and Williams each scored one run each. Lyons and Lawrence each had 2 RBIs. Abby Boyd, Anna Sullivan, and Foster had 1 RBI each.
