Motlow Softball Honors Sophomores By Winning Series Over Southwest

LYNCHBURG, TN (April 30, 2024) – The Lady Bucks win all 4 games in the series against Southwest this past Friday and Saturday. 

The sophomores that were honored were Mary Bradley, Michalee Clay, Hannah Foster, Anna Sullivan, Hannah Totaro, and Karley Daughrity.

Motlow plays Dyersburg State this Sunday in Columbia, TN as their first game in the TCCAA Tournament. 

Friday Game 1. Motlow 6 Southwest 0

The Lady Bucks were able to keep Southwest off the scoreboard the whole game as Southwest was unable to score a run. As well as a strong front defensively by Motlow, they were able to execute offensively as well by scoring at least one run in almost every inning.

The Lady Bucks scored one run in the bottom of the 2nd, one run in the 3rd, one run in the 4th, and three runs in the 6th. Abby Boyd, Michalee Clay, Kennadee Lawrence, Anna Sullivan, Hannah Foster, and Mallorie Stone each scored one run each. Carli Warner and Sullivan each batted in one runner, while Clay batted in two. 

Mary Bradley only allowed two hits and struck out nine batters over seven innings.

Friday Game 2. Motlow 4 Southwest 3

Motlow was able to take the lead quickly has they scored one run  in the bottom of the 1st as well as scoring a run in the bottom of the 4th. The Bucks were able to keep Southwest from scoring until the top of the 5th as Southwest added three runs to the scoreboard, taking the lead for the first time all day. By the 6th inning, Southwest was in the lead 3-2. 

Motlow was able to take back their lead in the bottom of the 7th  by scoring two runs, securing the victory for game 2. 

Mallory Williams scored two runs for the Lady Bucks, and Boyd and Warner scored one run each. Haylee Hobby, Parker Whales, Warner, and Sullivan each had 1 RBI. Hobby struck out two batters over 4 innings and Bradley allowed no hits and struck out five batters over 2 innings. 

Saturday Game 1. Motlow 5 Southwest 3

Both teams started out strong defensively as neither team was able to score for the first two innings. In the top of the 3rd, Southwest added three runs to the scoreboard. They were able to keep the 3-0 lead until the bottom of the 5th where Motlow excelled offensively and scored five runs to take the lead. 

Southwest was unable to score for the remainder of the game, giving the Lady Bucks the win 3-5. 

Hannah Totaro, Clay, Whales, Foster, and Williams each scored one run each for the Lady Bucks. Foster batted in two runners, while Lawrence and Williams both had 1 RBI each. Mary Bradley 

Mallory Williams scored two runs for the Lady Bucks, and Boyd and Warner scored one run each. Haylee Hobby, Parker Whales, Warner, and Sullivan each had 1 RBI. 

Bradley had an excellent game from the pitcher’s circle as for struck out 10 batters over seven innings.

Saturday Game 2. Motlow 10 Southwest 9

Southwest was able to take an early lead as they were able to score four runs in the top of the 1st inning. Motlow responded by scoring one run in the bottom of the 2nd, but Southwest quickly extended their lead by adding two more runs in the top of the 3rd

Motlow continues to attempt to take the lead but only adds two runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Southwest continues to extend the lead by scoring three more runs on the top of the 4th. The Lady Bucks stay consistant in scoring by adding two more runs in the bottom of the 4th. By the 5th inning, Southwest was up 9-5.

Motlow was able to improve their defense and keep Southwest from scoring for the last three innings. On the offensive side, the Lady Bucks continued to consistently add runs to the scoreboard by scoring three runs in the bottom of the 6thand two runs in the bottom of the 7th, giving Motlow the win 10-9. 

Hobby, Lawrence, and Warner each scored two runs each, while Williams, Clay, Totaro, and Foster each scored one run each. Sullivan batted three runners in, and Foster batted in two runners. Hobby, Clay, Lawrence, and Warner had 1 RBI each. Hobby struck out two batters over one inning, and Williams struck out three batters over two innings. Dejah Lineberger only allowed one hit and struck out one batter over three innings.
