Women’s Basketball Will Not Play Again Until January

Motlow women's basketball player Jheilaa Thomas

The Motlow women's basketball team has concluded the first half of the regular season and will not play again until January 2023. Scheduled games against Calhoun and Bryan College JV have been canceled.

The Bucks have struggled to even play during the past week, with illness and injuries decimating the already short-handed roster. Scheduled road games against Wallace State-Hanceville (AL) and Itawamba (MS) Community College were canceled.

Motlow's last game was a 72-55 loss to Dyersburg State on Dec. 3 in Dyersburg.

The Bucks trailed 16-8 after one quarter, but a strong second stanza pulled them within 29-27 at halftime. The home team surged to a 49-41 lead after three quarters and pulled at the end.

Morgan Webb led the Bucks with 24 points and 11 rebounds, plus a pair of steals. Jheilaa Thomas scored 15 points with two rebounds. Destiny Russell had eight points with three rebounds and two steals. A'Maria Thomison scored four points with five rebounds, and Kameya Bridgewater added four points and three rebounds.

Their next scheduled game is Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, when they host TCCAA rival Columbia State at Copperweld Arena. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

Motlow State Community College competes on the Division I level in baseball, softball, women's soccer, men's basketball, and women's basketball. The Bucks are a member of the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) and compete in Region 7 of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
