Five score in double-figures as Bucks beat Cumberland JV

Five Motlow Bucks scored at least 10 points to lead the women's basketball team to a 72-57 win over the Cumberland University JV squad Monday night at Nisbett Center.

Motlow (1-1) will travel to Birmingham on Thursday to play non-conference opponent Lawson State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST. The Bucks will return home on Monday, Nov. 13, when they host Itawamba in a rematch of the season opener. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. and active military and veterans get in free. It is also Tullahoma High School night, with THS students admitted free. Admission is $6.

The Bucks controlled the action from the start, hitting three-pointers on their first two possessions and storming to a 21-9 lead after one quarter and a 40-24 lead at halftime. The Phoenix made a run in the second half, pulling within nine at one point, but the Bucks closed out strong in the fourth quarter.

Nashville sophomore Dan'Angela Wilson led the Bucks with 14 points while pulling down nine rebounds and adding four assists and two steals. Mississippi freshman Kaitlyn Williams scored 13 points with six rebounds and two assists. Florida sophomore Samara Calso had 12 points with four rebounds and hit both of her three-point attempts.

Freshmen Autum Nunemaker, from Fayetteville, along with Clarksville's Lovely Alexander, scored 10 points each, with Alexander dishing out nine assists along with four rebounds. Nunemaker added seven rebounds and blocked two shots.

Sophomore transfer Ja'Mya Gooch added eight points, five rebounds, and two steals. Destiny Russell scored three points and Divora Yared added two.

Motlow shot the ball extremely well for the second consecutive game, connecting on 66.7 percent of its shots and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
